Hey Girlfriend – Paper Piecing

I finally got to play with these cute little girls from The Hey Girlfriend Stamp set and if you love to color than this stamp set is perfect for you. I love to color and fussy cut so I was up for the challenge. I decided I wanted to try and paper piece the dresses. I had so much fun coloring and fussy cutting these little girls and I am so pleased with the way they turned out. But you really need to love, love coloring and fussy cutting to do this card!

If you would like the instructions for this card and how I fussy cut and colored the little girls

This card is made with the Hey Girlfriend stamps set from the January to June Mini catalogue. I decided I wanted to try and Paper Piece the little girl’s dresses.

Stamp Set: Hey Girlfriend.

Paper: Balmy Blue, Basic White, and Blushing Bride card stock, Oh So Ombre DSP, masking paper.

Accessories: Stampin Blends Alcohol markers, Wink of Stella, Blending Brushes, liquid glue, Basic Rhinestones, sharp Paper Snips, Memento Black Ink, Flirty Flamingo Ink, Balmy Blue Ink and Pear Pizzazz.

Cutting Measurements:

  • Balmy Blue card stock 8-1/2 x 4-1/4 scored at 5-1/2
  • Basic White card stock 4 x 5-1/4
  • Oh So Ombre scraps to stamp dresses on.
  • Scrapes of Basic White for stamping on and for sentiment.
  • Petal Pink 2-1/4 x 2-1/4 for scalloped layer.

Instructions to Make Card:

  1. With Memento Ink stamp out the position you would like for the girls on your card.
  2. I colored each girl first. I used light Petal Pink for their skin. I colored up a little past where their skirt started on her legs and arms etc so there was no white spots where the paper pieced dress was. For the eyes I used light Balmy Blue and Soft Sea Foam. This was a perfect color as they were not too dark. The lips I colored with light Flirty Flamingo. The hair I used combos of dark Cinnamon Cider and Bronze, light and dark Cinnamon Cider, and light Mango Melody and Dark Daffodil Delight. Their shoes were colored with dark Basic Black.
  3. For the green dress I stamped the dress on the green Oh So Ombre DSP (designer series paper) and fussy cut out the dress only. I then colored the belt with dark Basic Black Blends and for the buckle I colored with Mango Melody and added a touch of Wink of Stella for a little sparkle on the buckle. I attached the dress to the girl with a little liquid glue ( you want to use just a few drops as it will seep out quite easily as these are very small pieces to work with).
  4. For the purple dress I stamped the dress on the Blackberry Bliss blended DSP piece trying to get as much variation as possible. I also stamped her hands on Basic White and fussy cut out just her hands (this is where the real test as to whether you like to fussy cut or not comes out). I used an exacto knife and cut out the area under her arms. I colored the heart she has made in her hand with dark real red. After fussy cutting out her dress I attached it to her body with liquid glue and then fussy cut out her hands and attacked them over the hands on her dress. I then colored the red red with Wink Of Stella for a little bling.
  5. The Girl in pink was a little more fussier to cut out. I stamped several images of her dress, leggings, and scarf on different parts of the variegated Rocco Rose Oh So Ombre DSP. I also stamped her arm on a scrap of Basic White and colored it with Petal Pink. When I cut out her arm I extended it up passed the scarf on her shoulder. I did the same thing to her leggings. I also stamped her purse out on the Rocco Rose DSP. For the flower on her scarf I stamped on Basic White and colored it with Mango Melody and put some Wink of Stella on it for some bling.
  6. I started with her leggings and added them in place with a little liquid glue. I then added her dress and then attached her arm. When the scarf was added it covered the arm that you just attacked. Then followed by the flower. I then added her purse tucking the edge under her dress and the strap over her arm.
  7. I stamped the kitten and puppy at the bottom of the card, coloring them in light Smokey Slate and light Soft Suede.
  8. And the fussy cutting is not over yet! I made masks of the three girls and the kitten and the puppy and covered the finished images so I could lightly brush the background with Blending Brushes in Flirty Flamingo and Balmy Blue for the sky and Pear Pizzazz for the ground.
  9. The sentiment came from the stamp set and I stamped it in Memento Black and die cut a circle around it. The layer behind was die cut using the Scalloped Circle Dies in Blushing Bride.
  10. The sentiment was added to the card with dimensionals.
  11. I then places some Basic Rhinestones on my card.
